The ancient parish of Llanelidan comprised the townships of Nantclwyd, Llan, Bryncyme, Bodlywydd, and Garthneuoedd. The church was mentioned in the Norwich Taxation of 1254. It was restored in 1859, and again in 1890. The church was in Denbighshire until 1974; and in Clwyd from 1974 until 1996. It is now in "new" Denbighshire.
