The parish was at one time a chapelry of Llangollen. It comprised the townships of Llafar Ucha, Llafar Isa, Nantir Ucha and Nantir Isa. The church was rebuilt about 1790. It was restored in 1839 and 1887. The church was in Denbighshire until 1974; and in Clwyd from 1974 until 1996. It is now in Wrexham County Borough.
