The church of St. Mary Magdalene, in the township of Willington, parish of Hanmer, was built in 1872/1873, and the bell turret was added in 1888.

The church was licensed for worship on 20 October 1873, and it was consecrated as a "chapel of ease" on 11 January 1876.

The new parish of Tallarn Green was created in 1948, from parts of the townships of Tybroughton and Willington, which had until then been in the parish of Hanmer.

The church was in Flintshire until 1974; and in Clwyd from 1974 until 1996.

It is now in Wrexham County Borough.
